Celebrating Swiss National Day at Anini Beach

Did the Red Cross have a First Aid Station at Anini Beach last Sunday afternoon or was there a Swiss invasion happening?  Look again: a white cross on red represents the Swiss National Flag, and yes, about a dozen Swiss citizens residing on Kauai gathered to celebrate their Swiss National Day on August 1st.  Switzerland was founded in 1291; it’s an old country with lots of traditions and customs that continue to be celebrated all across the world usually with a Bratwurst BBQ, potato salad, homemade breads, and yummy apple pie. I was born and raised in Switzerland, and my family and I enjoy getting together with other Swiss compatriots from Kauai at least once a year for a fun afternoon at the beach.
