Enjoy a family movie night and help raise funds for the Princeville Playground.

Several of our agents and employees have children and reside in the Princeville area. They recently came to us with this project to renovate the Princeville Playground.  Please read about their endeavor below and perhaps you can find a way to help, too.

Six months ago a group of north shore moms came together to explore ways to make the Princeville Playground a safer and cleaner place to play.  The current sand surface does not meet US safety standards for playground equipment and could result in serious injury if a child were to fall from one of the existing play structures.  In addition to safety concerns the sand surface can be very unsanitary, attracting feral cats and breeding germs.

In an effort to address these issues the newly formed Princeville Playground Committee began securing estimates to replace the flooring with turf which would solve both the safety and sanitation issues.  After meeting with several vendors, the committee, with full approval and support from the Princeville at Hanalei Community Association (PHCA), chose to replace the sand with Rainbow PIP turf.  The Rainbow turf meets and/or exceeds the standard of acceptability of surface materials according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Handbook for Playground Safety.

The PHCA Board of Directors has agreed to provide $20,000 towards the $78,204 needed to replace the flooring and toddler structure (also in need of replacement) and plant mature landscaping to provide increased shade.  To raise the remaining $58,302 the committee is working to secure major gifts, applying for grants from local foundations and on February 14th will host a Valentine’s Day Family Movie Night at the St. Regis Hotel.  The event will raise public awareness about the need to renovate the playground as well as $5000 in funding towards the effort.

We are inviting north shore businesses and residents to support this project by sponsoring the Valentine’s Day Family Movie Night.  Sponsorships start at $750, and will help cover audio/visual and food costs for the event.  Sponsorship includes:

  • Acknowledgement on all event materials including tickets, flyers and banners.
  • Acknowledgement from the stage during the event.
  • Listing as a sponsor on the North Shore Community Foundation website as well as the Princeville at Hanalei Community Association website.

I sincerely hope you will support this effort to create a safer and cleaner play area for the children of the north shore.  Please contact me with any questions or for more information.

Thank you for considering our request.

With respect and aloha,
