Coldwell Banker Bali Hai Realty took the opportunity to celebrate the holidays by presenting a donation to the Salvation Army in the amount of $3,900 to continue their Kokua Soup Kitchen service for 2012.

Bali Hai donates $3900 to the Salvation Army Kokua Soup Kitchen

Major Mario Reyes of the Lihu’e Corps Community Center and their Kitchen Manager Nathan Apuna were on hand to receive the funds.  Nathan is a culinary magician, cooking up wonderful meals every week at the Lihue Kokua Soup Kitchen.  Our staff enjoys working with him when they volunteer for Tuesday meal service.

The Lihu’e Corps website states it “serves families on the island of Kaua’i by offering a range of services including emergency assistance to families struggling to meet their basic needs.  The Lihu’e Corps provides these families assistance in the form of food, clothing and payment of rent and basic utilities.

The Lihue Corps also serves Lihue’s hungry and homeless community through its Kokua Soup Kitchen. With the full support and cooperation of churches, community leaders, businesses and dedicated volunteers, The Salvation Army serves hot meals twice a week to anyone who is hungry.”

These are very challenging times for many folks on Kauai as evidenced by the growing numbers of island families who rely on the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen for what is often their only nutritious meal of the day. Conversely, funding for such important programs has become increasingly scarce, so in this season of giving John Ferry and Bali Hai took the initiative to give back to the community that they serve.
