Michael R. Schmidt grew up in southern California, where his father was a developer and broker. After several years as a microcomputer systems consultant for companies like IBM and Apple, Michael abandoned his microcomputer career for a lifestyle in paradise. His passion for extreme ocean sports brought Michael to Kauai in 1985, and he has been sharing his love for the island through his real estate career ever since.
Michael's attention to detail, experience, and integrity consistently make Bali Hai Kauai's leading real estate firm. In addition to assisting the firm's agents as Principal Broker, Michael is a top producer. In 2007 and 2010, Michael was ranked as one of the Top 100 Realtors in Hawaii and admitted to the Top 20 Club by the Kauai Board of Realtors in 2011.
Michael's family, including his wife, Maxima, and his sons, Matthew and Luke, are very active with St. William Church in Hanalei and community services. Maxima loves photography, and Matthew and Luke are involved in baseball and soccer, while Michael surfs, windsurfs, and kitesurfs whenever he has the chance, along with coaching baseball.
Michael's been an agent with Bali Hai since 1994, became Principal Broker in 1997, and has a B.A. in Business/Information Systems from San Diego State University.

In 2003, Realtor Michael Schmidt helped me buy raw land on the North Shore of Kaua’i.
The physical driveway to the land crosses over my neighbor’s property. During Escrow, Michael insisted that the driveway be recorded with the County as a Legal Easement to guarantee access and utilities. Michael said, “in the future, should the relationship with your neighbors become bad, they could cut-off your access to your property for the fact that your ‘driveway’ crosses over their land.” 16 years later, I am so fortunate to have worked with a professional, like Michael Schmidt. Although the neighbor-owner has changed 5 times over these 16 years, the current one would like to cut-off my access across his property. Thanks to Michael’s professionalism, expertise and foresight, my ‘driveway’ is a legal easement, guaranteeing my access forever, regardless of the relationship I have with my neighbor.
